Vaporwave Museum

As part of my two-year Honours degree at the Faculty of Arts at Radboud University, I created a virtual museum exploring the microgenre Vaporwave in the context of metamodernism. The museum is built inside the 2007 free-to-play online shooting game Team Fortress 2. The museum is available throughout June 2022, only to disappear forever after and become v a p o r w a r e.

The museum consists of several rooms with essays on metamodernism, and how it relates to vaporwave album covers. With each of the album covers on display, there is a short analysis of the album cover. The museum also contains a musical analysis by music researcher dr. Vincent Meelberg.

To connect with the museum during June 2022, download and follow the connection instructions.

To read the accompanying museum texts, you can download the essay on Metamodernity of vaporwave Music and Album Covers and the Analyses of Vaporwave Album Covers.

My project was supervised by cultural researcher dr. Dennis Kersten, and was made possible by the Faculty of Arts Honours Programme at Radboud University.

I was interviewed about my project by Julia Vosmeijer, and you can read the interview (Dutch) here.
